Rent Kayaks

STEM Connection

Kayaking puts you as close as you can get to oceanography without actually getting wet.  There's lots to be learned about our great inland water ways from a water's resistance to on ore, speed, buoyancy, friction, etc.  One important tid-bit is the the width of the kayak is directly related to the stability of the kayak.  The wider the kayak, the more stable it will be.  Be advised, that doesn't also equate to speed.

Project Materials List

  • Remember to bring along some ziplock baggies to put your phones and other valuables in.  It's unlikely you'll tip over, but still...just play it safe.

  • A towel

  • Possibly a change of clothes (or at least a change of bottoms).  Water tends to splash into a kayak and get on your seat....making your butt wet.

Ideas, Notes, & Tips

Listen to the guides!!!  They know their stuff.

The water is always a little calmer on the Lewes beach because it's protected by the sandbar point.  In Dewey, they rent kayaks for the bay, which is usually a little windy.
